
This time, congress had not given tickets to its four sitting MLAs from Pratappur, Samri, Ramanuganj and
Manendragarh seats of the region, but its four new candidates also lost the elections. Similarly, congress had won
11 out of 12 seats in Bastar division in 2018, but this time its seats reduced to four, while it is trailing on one seat.
This time bjp has won seven seats in the region and is leading on one seat. In 2018, Dantewada was the only seat
won by bjp in the region but the seat was won by congress in the by-election. Even in the by-elections held due to
different reasons, congress managed to retain its two seats – Chitrakote and Bhanupratappur.

Congress mla from Chitrakot deepak Baij had left the post of mla after being elected mp from Bastar Lok
Sabha seat in the 2019 parliamentary elections. Bhanupratappur seat fell vacant last year after the death of the then
MLA and Deputy Speaker of the state assembly Manoj Mandavi. congress had fielded Mandavi’s wife Savitri
Mandavi Verma, who won the by-election. The seats that bjp has won so far in this region include Antagarh,
Kanker, Keshkal, Kondagaon, Jagdalpur, Chitrakote and Dantewada, while it is leading in Narayanpur by a huge
margin.
Chhattisgarh congress president and mp deepak Baij lost the Chitrakote seat to BJP’s Vinayak Goyal by a margin
of 8,370 votes, while congress minister Mohan Markam lost the Kondagaon seat to BJP’s Lata Usendi by a margin
of 18,572 votes. The four congress candidates who won from this constituency include minister Kawasi Lakhma
(Conta) and three sitting MLAs - vikram Mandavi (Bijapur), Lakheshwar Baghel (Bastar) and savitri Mandavi
(Bhanupratapur). congress had not given tickets to its five sitting MLAs from Antagarh, Kanker, Dantewada,
Chitrakote and Jagdalpur of the region. But the party lost on all the seats. Voting for the 90-member state assembly
was held in two phases on november 7 and 17. The counting of votes was done on Sunday.
