Reportedly after the completion of the construction work of Academic Complex east and Academic Complex West in the Hauz Khas campus of IIT delhi, it was formally inaugurated. PM narendra modi inaugurated both the newly constructed academic complexes through video conferencing. This is the largest single construction activity for research and academic purposes in the history of IIT Delhi.

Perhaps on this occasion, minister of State for External Affairs and Culture, government of India, Meenakshi Lekhi, eminent scientists of various organizations, BOG members, Building and Works Committee (BWC) members, faculty, staff and students of the institute were also present in the program organized at the institute. Both these multi-storey complexes have been developed at a cost of Rs 260 crore, in addition to the existing academic area in the campus with a plinth area of more than 60 thousand square meters.

Both these academic complexes also include facilities like 200 faculty offices, 10 committee rooms, 13 conference rooms, faculty lounge and departmental library. Expressing his gratitude on the inauguration of the newly constructed academic complex by PM Modi, IIT delhi Director professor Rangan Banerjee said, “The two academic complexes inaugurated today by the prime minister will strengthen the existing academic and research facilities in the campus. "The institute is known for the cutting-edge research conducted by the faculty and students. The new research facilities in these two academic blocks will help us reach new heights."
