In the Union Budget 2025-26, the central government has made a big announcement on Kisan Credit Card. Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the budget on saturday, february 1. During this, she has announced that the limit of Kisan Credit Card will be increased. At present this limit is 3 lakhs. Which will be increased to five lakhs. According to the announcement of the Finance minister, Kisan Credit Card provides short term loan facility to 7.7 crore farmers, fishermen and dairy farmers. Under the revised interest subsidy scheme, the loan limit for loans taken through KCC (Kisan Credit Card) will be increased from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 5 lakh.'
What did the Finance minister say?
Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on saturday announced raising the limit of the interest subsidy scheme for Kisan Credit Card (KCC) from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 5 lakh. Presenting the budget in parliament on saturday, Sitharaman said the government will increase the credit guarantee cover for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to improve their access to credit. Apart from this, the government will introduce 'customized' credit cards with a limit of Rs 5 lakh for micro enterprises. She said that Kisan Credit Cards will provide short-term loan facilities to 7.7 crore farmers, fishermen and dairy farmers. She said that well-run export-oriented MSMEs will be provided term loans up to Rs 20 crore.
How many KCCs are active in UP?
This announcement of the Finance minister will be of great benefit to the farmers of UP. According to a government data, the number of small and marginal farmer families in the state is 92.5%, of which marginal farmer families are 79.5% and small farmers are 13.0%. Out of 79.5% marginal families, 73.2% have land holdings of less than 0.5 hectares and their average land holding is 0.27 hectares.
According to an information, the highest number of card holders in the country are in UP, whose figure is close to 15 percent. Based on the data of NABARD, about 15% of the total operational KCC cards in india are in Uttar Pradesh.
