The political battle over sanitation in delhi has intensified. delhi Pradesh congress Committee President Devendra Yadav has accused bjp and aam aadmi party (AAP) of only pretending in the name of cleanliness. He said that delhi Chief minister Rekha Gupta, Mayor and NDMC Chairman are misleading the public by just getting photographed instead of doing ground work in the mega cleanliness campaign.
Devendra Yadav said that according to the recommendation of the National capital Region Planning Board, a city like delhi should have 3-6 sanitation workers per thousand residents. That is, delhi needs 2 lakh sanitation workers, but in reality this number is less than 60 thousand. Most sanitation workers work on contract, due to which the sanitation system is in shambles.
Mountains of garbage and threat of pollution
Yadav called Delhi's landfill sites 'mountains of garbage' and held bjp responsible. He said that during the 15 years of BJP's MCD rule, landfill sites turned into garbage dumps. The poisonous gases emanating from these sites are spreading respiratory and lung diseases among the people living nearby. Governments are spending crores of rupees in the name of removing landfills, but due to corruption, this work is happening only on paper.
Failure of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan
The congress leader also called PM Modi's Swachh Bharat Abhiyan a failure. He said that BJP's 'triple engine government' has completely failed to make delhi clean. Recently, Delhi's roads were choked with waterlogging in the unseasonal rain of May 2, which is a proof of the government's failure.
AAP's promises are also hollow
Yadav also targeted AAP. He said that 11 years ago, AAP had made big promises to make delhi like London-Paris and to end landfill sites, but today Delhi's sanitation system is in a bad state. The mutual politics of bjp and AAP has brought delhi to a garbage dump.
