Adani Group has launched the country's first hydrogen fuel cell truck in Chhattisgarh. State chief minister Vishnu Dev Sai flagged off this truck in raipur today. It will be used to transport coal from chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company Limited's (CSPGCL) Gare Palma III opencast coal mines to the power plant. This truck is capable of carrying 40 tonnes of goods for about 200 kilometres after filling fuel once.
There is no fear of pollution from this
The truck has three hydrogen tanks, which can compete with heavy diesel-powered vehicles in terms of load capacity and range. While there is no pollution either. Diesel-powered vehicles emit many poisonous gases like carbon dioxide, which is not friendly to the environment.
Whereas only water and hot air are emitted by the use of hydrogen. That is, there is no fear of pollution from this nor of noise. Hydrogen is the most abundant element in the world. Its increased use will reduce diesel consumption and will also reduce oil imports from abroad, so it is one of the cleanest energy options in the commercial vehicle sector.
There are many other benefits too
Hydrogen fuel cell produces electricity by mixing hydrogen and oxygen through an electrochemical process. It has many benefits - it is better for the environment due to zero carbon emissions, but it has another big feature. Its fueling is done quickly. It takes only a few minutes to fill hydrogen. They also have the power to cover longer distances than electric trucks.
The development of hydrogen trucks in our country is still in its initial stages, but private companies and the government are continuously moving forward in this direction. In India, the price of hydrogen trucks is decided on the basis of model, range and capacity. Generally, their price is up to Rs 2 crore. You will get H2-ICE trucks in the range of Rs 60-90 lakh, while the price of H2-FCEV trucks is between Rs 1 to 2 crore.
