The lost dignity of chandni Chowk, the country's historical heritage and once a centre of business, will return again. mp Praveen Khandelwal has taken up this initiative to make it a reality as soon as possible. To carry out this, he conducted a comprehensive inspection of the chandni Chowk area on foot.

During this, senior officials of many departments including DC City, DCP North, delhi Jal Board, PWD, DUSIB, BSES, and Shahjahanabad Redevelopment Authority were also present with him. This tour, undertaken with the aim of re-establishing chandni Chowk as India's major commercial and cultural centre, started from gauri shankar Temple near the red Fort. This inspection went on to Sadar Bazar via Qutub Road and Bada Tooti Chowk. During the inspection, Khandelwal expressed a lot of concern over encroachment, chaos and deficiencies in civic amenities. He said that today chandni Chowk is a victim of lack of coordination. The time has come to make it glorious again.

Strict instructions on encroachment and disorder

The mp gave strict instructions to the officials regarding the encroachment on footpaths and roads, especially around Fatehpuri Masjid Chowk and Sheeshganj Gurudwara. He said that the sheds, coolers and other encroachments installed on the footpaths have become a danger for pedestrians. In the same sequence, instructions were given on the spot to remove encroachment in Qutub Road Railway Bridge and Sadar Bazar area.

Concrete steps towards redevelopment

The mp suggested changing the name of Shahjahanabad Redevelopment Corporation to 'Indraprastha Redevelopment Authority', so that the development of the area can be in accordance with the future needs along with the historical heritage. He said that the reorganization of chandni Chowk should not be limited to beautification only but it should be connected with systematic trade, tourism and public facilities.
