Kripal has dealt mainly with constitutional, commercial, civil, and criminal cases. He was part of a team of lawyers in the LGBTQ case before the supreme court bench.

Section 377 case counsel

He was also part of the team of advocates in the case of Navtej Singh Johar's petition against the government of india in the supreme Court. This case was related to the rights of homosexuals.

He strongly argued that section 377 of the IPC should be excluded from criminal cases. In this case, the supreme court had given a landmark judgment repealing the section criminalizing homosexual acts.

Saurabh Kripal used to attend very few lectures at Oxford. His first love was astrophysics. A senior lawyer who has been a lawyer in the supreme court for many years said on condition of anonymity that he did not know that he had won the election by 15 votes in Oxford.

He also said that Saurabh Kripal fought for equal rights for many people in different courts and got justice.

Too late to recommend

Chief Justice N. V. The Collegium headed by Ramanna recommended the appointment of Saurabh Kripal as a Judge of the delhi High court on 11 november 2021.

However, according to some media reports, in october 2017, the delhi High court Collegium had recommended the appointment of Saurabh Kripal as a judge in the delhi High Court.

As Saurabh Kripal is gay, it is being discussed that it will take time to recommend his name. Because he will be the first gay judge in the country.

Kripal's name was repeatedly sent to the Central Government. The government had earlier blocked the recommendation process.

"My 20-year-old partner is of foreign descent, so it could be a security risk. However, this seems to be a show-off and not the whole truth. That's why I was not considered for promotion because of my sexuality," he said in an interview. 

Gender Luthra, a well-known lawyer, told the BBC that sexuality or one's personal preference should not play a role in the selection of judges.

"Saurabh Kripal's personal preference should not affect his recommendation for appointment as a judge in the delhi High Court. 

Qualification and ability should be given priority. He has all the qualities to become a judge," Luthra said.
