President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa besieged the presidential residence and launched a big demonstration today amid political uncertainty in Sri Lanka. Students, lawyers, and members of the ruling coalition's parliament were also there. The Corona outbreak has had a significant economic impact on Sri Lanka. Inflows of foreign currency into sri lanka have been significantly hampered. Sri Lanka's currency has depreciated significantly. As a result, there is a serious gasoline scarcity. 

Power cuts are in effect in sri lanka for up to 12 hours each day due to a shortage of funds to purchase coal. The cost of gasoline and diesel has reached an all-time high. Commodity prices have reached their apex. As a result, people's conflicts against the state have become more intense. All of the ministers have resigned in the midst of the country's critical situation. Four interim ministers have been appointed as a result of this. One of them was Finance minister Ali Sabri's abrupt resignation just 24 hours after taking office.

In this background, the Sri Lankan parliament met today. However, the majority of MPs did not show up for the meeting. The Gotabhaya Rajapaksa-led ruling party coalition has 157 members out of a total of 225 in Sri Lanka. However, between 50 and 60 members of the ruling coalition have refused to back Gotabhaya Rajapaksa's government. As a result, the ruling coalition has lost its majority. In an attempt to mend fences, Mahinda Rajapaksa has stood down.
