Statistically, 2023 has been by far the best-ever calendar year for indian cinema, and here's why. 2023 has the greatest number of Rs 500 crore grossers in indian box office history. This year, there are four 500 crore grossers in indian film. Pathan, Jawan, Animal, and Gadar 2 are the films in question, and they have all grossed more than Rs 500 crore at the indian box office. Other famous names like Salaar, Leo, and Jailer did well as well, but their domestic collections fell short of the Rs 500 crore barrier.

This is the only year in history that has seen four such enormous blockbusters. The trend began in 2015 when rajamouli and prabhas launched Baahubali into the Rs 500 crore domestic gross market. This was accomplished by Amir Khan's dangal in 2016, followed by the largest blockbuster in indian film history, Baahubali 2(2017), which was also the first and only Rs 1000 crore grosser.

In 2018, Rajinikanth's 2.0 accomplished this accomplishment. rrr and kgf 2 reached this milestone in 2022. This time, in 2023, the aforementioned four films have accomplished the feat. The year 2024 looks brighter with the release of numerous telugu pan-India films, including pushpa 2, Kalki, Devara, and Game Changer. The objective would be to outperform this year's tally of films grossing Rs 500 crore.
