Congress President mallikarjun Kharge has raised significant fears over rahul Gandhi's security during the Bharat Jodo Nyay yatra in Assam. In a letter to Union home minister amit shah, Kharge revealed the major security failings that reportedly transpired over the last several days.

This comes after congress members, headed by gandhi, battled with police officers on the outskirts of guwahati on Tuesday, prompting a FIR against gandhi and other congress officials.

The FIR charges them with criminal conspiracy, unlawful assembly, and breach of peace. assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma criticised the event, describing the congress members' conduct as "naxalite tactics" that are "alien to Assamese culture".

Senior congress lawmaker jairam ramesh posted a copy of Kharge's letter, expressing the party's worry over the "atmosphere of fear and intimidation" purportedly fostered by the assam administration.

The letter begs Shah to act and safeguard Gandhi's and the yatra participants' safety. It further recommends that the chief minister and director General of police, assam, take all necessary precautions to prevent any such events that might result in physical injury.

Kharge's letter details various "attacks" on the yatra, purportedly carried out by bjp activists, since it arrived in assam last week. He also cites multiple occasions in which the assam police "has been found wanting in providing adequate security" for rahul gandhi, a Z+ protectee.

The Bharat Jodo Nyay yatra, which began on january 14 in Imphal, Manipur and will travel 6,700 miles to Mumbai, aims to solve social, economic, and political challenges while unifying society's poorer parts.

The congress has used the yatra to express opposition to what they see as the narendra modi government's anti-people policies, such as the administration of labour laws and the alleged misuse of national investigation agencies against opposition leaders.
