AAP politician and delhi Transport minister Kailash Gahlot was called by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on sunday in relation to the liquor policy issue. This came about following chief minister Arvind Kejriwal's detention on march 21 in connection with the same case by the investigative agency.

Najafgarh mla Gahlot was a member of a committee that drafted the delhi government's now-cancelled alcohol policy for 2021–2022. The ED claims that the 'South Group' was given access to the draft liquor policy.

According to the investigation agency, Gahlot gave AAP communication chief Vijay Nair permission to use his official home while the draft liquor policy was being created.

Gahlot was accused by the ED earlier of changing his cellphone number several times.

After being presented in court on march 28, kejriwal is currently being held by the ED till april 1. After his detention, kejriwal was previously placed in ED custody till march 28 by a delhi court.

In addition to kejriwal, other people detained in connection with the liquor policy issue include former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, former minister Satyendar Jain, and rajya sabha MP Sanjay Singh.

The issue concerns alleged money laundering and corruption during the creation and implementation of the spirits policy by the delhi government.

The delhi government's liquor policy, which grants licences to booze sellers, has been accused by the ED and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) of facilitating cartelization and favouring specific dealers who had reportedly paid bribes for it. The AAP has strenuously denied these allegations.

After that, the policy was abandoned, and Lieutenant governor of delhi VK Saxena suggested looking into the inconsistencies in its creation and application.
