Similar to her first tamil film, Mask, pooja hegde plays a deglamorous role. The viral dancing clip in the marriage song is, in her opinion, the highlight of the entire movie. She does a fantastic job there, but the rest falls flat. She makes a concerted effort to play it subtly, but the character and the material are monotonous and annoying.
Retro is written and directed by karthik Subbaraj. In spirit, it is more akin to his most recent excursion, jigarthanda DoubleX, which was among his greatest in a long time. As a result, there were tremendous expectations. Retro, however, starts off in a surprising way given karthik Subbaraj's prior films. The film's plot revolves around the opening block, which contains the story up until the hero is introduced. But the important part is only apparent in retrospect, and regrettably, as events actually unfold, the proceedings begin to lose interest.
