Will Yunus step down?  Bangladesh's interim government chief, professor Muhammad Yunus, is considering resigning, the BBC Bangla service reported at midnight on Thursday, citing student-led National Citizen party CP party chief Nhid islam, who expressed the fear that he would not be able to work with after political parties failed to find a common ground.

According to the ncp convenor, Chief Adviser Yunus stated, "I won't be able to work unless the political parties can reach a common ground," expressing his concern that he would not be able to function in the current state of the nation.

Since this morning, we have been informed that Sir Yunus has resigned. I so proceeded to speak with Sir about that matter. He stated that he is considering it. He believes he is unable to work because of the circumstances," islam continued.

He told Yunus "to stay strong for the sake of the country's security, and future, and to meet the expectations of the mass uprising," according to the ncp leader who publicly appeared in february of this year with Yunus's blessings.

According to islam, he expressed to the chief adviser his expectation that the political parties will come together and work together, saying, "I hope everyone will cooperate with him."

"If the political party wants him to resign now... why he will stay if he does not get that place of trust, that place of assurance?" the ncp leader added, arguing that there was no use in Yunus remaining if he was unable to do his duties.

Several Challenges
In the last two days, Yunus's government has faced a number of difficulties, chief among them the presence of Bangladesh's ostensibly united armed forces, which were instrumental in the student-led rebellion of the previous year.

The movement overthrew the Awami League government of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and brought Yunus to power. Despite being urged to put an end to the rebellion, the army chose not to crack down on demonstrators during the demonstration.

However, in response to the demand of students against Discrimination (SAD), a significant portion of which has since evolved into the ncp, the military offered to let Hasina safely leave for india by deploying an air force plane and appointing Yunus as the main adviser, essentially the prime minister.
