In less than a week, Fear Street: Prom queen rose to the top of Netflix's worldwide weekly list.  The first stand-alone film in the Fear Street series, it was released on May 23 and is the fourth installment in the series, following the 2021 trilogy, 1994, 1978, and 1666.  The masked slasher returns to Shadyside in this film, which stars india Fowler as Lori Granger, Suzanna Son as Megan Rogers, Fina Strazza as Tiffany Falconer, and others.

In just three days, Fear Street: Prom queen received 10.7 million views, with 16 million hours of total viewing, according to Netflix.  After Nonnas led the streamer's list for two weeks, this was sufficient to take the #1 spot.  The Vince Vaughn film is at number three with 8.4 million views and 16 million total viewing hours, while Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is at number two with 8.7 million views.

What This Means For Fear Street: Prom Queen

Fear Street: Prom Queen's Debut Viewership Doesn't Fall Short Despite Poor Reception

Even though the first trilogy was released four years ago, viewers seem to have been impacted by the Fear Street brand.  With a 31% critical approval rate and a 28% audience approval rate, Prom queen is currently the worst-received title in the series and the only one to earn a "rotten" grade on Rotten Tomatoes.  Even if the film isn't as new as the original trilogy, its successful premiere shows how well-liked and promising it is.

Fear Street Part 1: 1994 had its premiere in 2021 with 16.6 million hours of views, and the sequel followed with 16 million hours.  With a total of 20.8 million hours viewed during its first week, the threequel was the most watched.  The fourth episode will probably get more viewers by the end of the week, considering that Prom queen was only released three days ago.  There's a good chance the fourth installment may wind up vying with 1666 for the series' biggest premiere.
