App-based aggregators such as uber and Rapido have removed the ability to book two-wheeler rides on their platforms in response to the karnataka government's ban on bike taxi services, which goes into force on june 16. But it seems that the prohibition sparked a creative workaround. Users of the Rapido and uber applications discovered a new feature on Sunday: services called "Bike Parcel" or "Moto Courier" that appear to be delivery services but have generated a lot of discussion online.

Many social media users conjectured that the action was an inventive way to continue bike taxi services under a different name.  With the caption, "Rapido is offering you to become a parcel and get delivered since karnataka HC has banned bike taxis," one person posted a screenshot of the app.  "Karnataka HC: bans bike taxis," another joked. Rapido: All right. You are now a package rather than a passenger. Me: "Bhaiya, handle likhna mat bhoolna with care," I said, sitting sideways like a courier bag.

The internet quickly responded, expressing both humor and appreciation for these services' inventiveness. One tweet joked, "Imagine texting your boss, 'I'm on the way sir, here's your courier tracking number.'" Another said, "Rapido bikers rocked, government shocked."  Others were even urged to come up with more "creative loopholes" to reintroduce bike taxis informally.

The ban is a significant policy change, notwithstanding the humorous online response. The state government's order to halt bike taxi services until thorough laws are in place to oversee their operations was recently affirmed by the karnataka High Court.
