Air India: air india flight from delhi to Bali returned; decision taken due to volcanic eruption

An air india spokesperson said, 'Air india flight number AI2145 from delhi to Bali on june 18, 2025, had to return to delhi due to reports of volcanic eruption near the destination airport Bali. The aircraft has landed safely in Delhi and all passengers have been disembarked.'

The air india flight from delhi to Bali had to return to the national capital. AI2145 was advised to return to delhi immediately due to the volcanic eruption in Indonesia. Earlier, due to bad weather in the national capital, an air india flight (AI2146) coming from Bali to Delhi was diverted to lal bahadur shastri international airport in Varanasi. After stopping in varanasi on tuesday, the flight left for delhi the same night.

A powerful volcanic eruption in eastern indonesia led to the cancellation of several international flights, including an air india flight to Bali on Wednesday. Many flights also had to be diverted, causing a lot of trouble to passengers. Mount Lewotobi Laki Laki, one of Indonesia's most active volcanoes located in east Nusa Tenggara province, erupted on tuesday evening. This caused huge clouds of ash to rise to a height of more than 10,000 meters (32,800 feet) in the sky. It could be seen from about 150 km away.

As a precaution, many airlines suspended operations at Bali's Ngurah Rai international Airport. Many airlines, including Virgin Australia, Jetstar, air New Zealand, Singapore's Tigerair, China's Juneyao airlines, and air india, canceled or diverted their flights.

The air india flight from delhi to Bali was advised to return mid-flight. After this, the plane landed safely at indira gandhi international (IGI) airport in Delhi. The airline clarified that all the passengers were safely disembarked. An air india spokesperson said, "We regret the inconvenience caused to the passengers. We are providing hotel accommodation to the affected passengers. If they wish, they can opt for ticket cancellation or change of travel or refund."

Earlier, air india canceled seven international flights on tuesday due to reasons including increased security checks and unavailability of aircraft after the ahmedabad plane crash. The return of six of these flights has also been canceled, taking the number of canceled flights to 13. All these were Boeing 787 Dreamliner flights. Meanwhile, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said that 66 out of a total of 248 Dreamliner flights of Air india had to be canceled in the last six days from june 12 to 17 due to technical flaws or unavailability of aircraft. During this period, air india operated 462 large aircraft, of which 83 flights were canceled.

According to DGCA, the flights that were canceled on tuesday include Ahmedabad-London, London-Amritsar, Delhi-Dubai, Bangalore-London, Delhi-Vienna and Delhi-Paris flights. At the same time, the plane coming from san francisco to mumbai landed in kolkata due to a technical fault, and its further journey to mumbai and then back has been canceled. Passengers are facing a lot of trouble due to the cancellation of these flights. Gatwick-London to amritsar flight AI-170 was also canceled on Tuesday.

Air India said on wednesday that it has canceled its Lucknow-Mumbai flight scheduled for june 17 due to operational reasons and a change in the flight route. An air india spokesperson said that alternative arrangements are being made to take the passengers to their destination Lucknow as soon as possible.

Air india flight AI2491 from mumbai to Lucknow scheduled on June 17 was cancelled. The airline said that the decision to cancel the flight was also taken due to the diversion of flights due to heavy rains in Delhi. Apart from this, the operations crew reached their regulatory flight duty time limit due to the delay in the arrival of the diverted flights.
