Mumbai Police's EOW registered another FIR against New india Cooperative Bank's then Vice Chairman Hiren bhanu and his wife Vice Chairperson Gauri Bhanu. police said that a major financial scam of Rs 24.93 crore has been exposed in New india Co-operative bank Limited located in Prabhadevi, Mumbai. In this case, EOW registered a case under sections 406, 409, 418 and 120 (B) of IPC. According to police sources, Ranjit Bhanu (deceased), Hiren Ranjit Bhanu, Gauri Hiren Bhanu, Satish Chander, Damyanti Salunke, Harinder Pal Singh, Manoj Kumar Patra, Suket Kumar patel, abhimanyu Bhon, concerned directors of New india Co-operative bank, director of Hermes Group, director of Percept Group (Nagpur) have been made accused in the case.

Loan of Rs 77 crore approved without due diligence

An official said that during the investigation of the embezzlement case of Rs 122 crore from New india Co-operative bank, another scam came to light that the then chairman of the bank Ranjit Bhanu, Vice Chairman Hiren Bhanu, Gauri Bhanu, MD Damyanti Salunke, other directors and Harinder Pal Singh, Manoj Patra etc. of Percept Group hatched a criminal conspiracy. A loan of up to Rs 77 crore was approved to Percept Group without proper due diligence.

Later, Hiren Bhanu, Suket patel and abhimanyu Bhon presented false business bills with Percept Group for personal gain and transferred an amount of Rs 6.37 crore (in the form of kickbacks) to their companies. When the loan accounts of Percept Group were declared NPA, the bank officials conspired and waived off the principal and interest amount of Rs 18.56 crore in the name of settlement, causing a total loss of Rs 24.93 crore to the bank.

According to the police, loans worth hundreds of crores of rupees were closed through one-time settlement (OTS), in which bank officials are also suspected of receiving money. Sources said that OTS was given in 274 loan accounts, out of which 176 accounts had loans of more than Rs 1 crore. These settlements were allegedly done suddenly and without anyone's attention and now they have come to the notice of the investigating agencies.
