In an action taken at Chhatrapati shivaji Maharaj international airport (CSMI), officials have seized diamonds and foreign currency worth Rs 1.25 crore from a passenger going to Dubai. Along with this, 24.96 kg of hydroponic ganja smuggled from thailand has been seized, whose illegal market value is estimated to be around Rs 24.66 crore.
On the basis of special intelligence, mumbai Customs Zone-III officials stopped an indian citizen at Chhatrapati shivaji Maharaj international airport (CSMI) on june 17, 2025 while departing from indigo flight number 6E 1511 before going to Dubai. Two passengers and a receiver have been arrested in this operation. Sources said that on june 18, 2025, based on a tip-off, Customs officials intercepted two passengers who arrived in mumbai from bangkok at the airport. When their luggage was thoroughly checked, hydroponic marijuana hidden in vacuum-packets was recovered.
In a coordinated action that followed, the person who was waiting outside the airport to receive the consignment was also arrested. The three accused have been booked under the NDPS Act, 1985 (Narcotic drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act). Preliminary investigations indicate the involvement of an international drug syndicate and further investigation is underway to track the activities of the entire network.
Diamond seizure case
Besides this, based on specific intelligence, officials of mumbai Customs Zone-III intercepted an indian national at CSMI on june 17, 2025 while departing from dubai by indigo flight number 6E 1511.
During the search of the passenger's luggage and personal search, the officials recovered 50,000 Saudi Riyals (approximately Rs 11,15,000 in indian currency), lab-grown diamonds (weighing 406.90 carats) valued at Rs 47,22,450, and natural diamonds (weighing 245.30 carats) valued at Rs 1,23,72,450.
In total, diamonds weighing 652.20 carats and foreign currency worth Rs 1,70,94,900 were recovered from the passenger and have been seized. The foreign currency was concealed in the passenger's black sling bag while the diamonds were concealed in three separate pouches on his body.
