This may be the least shocking news item of 2025. Disney has confirmed that Lilo & Stitch 2 will proceed, as we first revealed on Toonado.com. Although the studio has not disclosed if Dean Fleischer Camp will helm the film again, we would wager that chris Sanders and Maia Kealoha will reprise their roles as the film's title characters.

Lilo & Stitch was a live-action adaptation of the 2002 animated film that was first created for Disney+ (which explains why some VFX characters were trimmed to make it more suitable for streaming).

Notwithstanding its flaws and an unexpectedly contentious new conclusion, Lilo & Stitch has made $923 million at the global box office thus far.  It has been a huge success for the house of Mouse and is expected to reach or surpass $1 billion globally.

Last month, Lilo & Stitch took over theaters after Thunderbolts* and Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning did poorly in May.

"That was one of the first conversations," Camp stated in an interview with Variety regarding the return of Sanders as Experiment 626. Before accepting the project, I made sure to obtain that guarantee.  I thought, 'Chris Sanders.'  Working with him was an absolute dream, as they stated, "Yeah, he's eager to come back."

"I believe it speaks volumes about the group that made the first film.  The filmmaker went on, "That collaborative process was fairly unique at the time, and it was still a lot of those team members' favorite experience making a movie or one of them."  "They sort of built this little ohana in making that film, and they were so eager to help out, and enthusiastic about reuniting, helping us, or supporting us however they could."

In response to a question about a potential sequel, he stated that it would only occur if it was the "right idea."  "I wouldn't do it just because there's a new market demand for it," Camp continued.  However, I also think that creating an animated spin-off as a limited series or episodic is a great idea.
