Because F1 will discuss the top division of international racing, it already has an audience.  This high-intensity motorsport attracts spectators from all over the world, both live and on television.  Joseph Kosinski is the film's director, which bodes well for its success. Kosinski previously directed the critically acclaimed 2022 film Top Gun: Maverick.  Additionally, the sequel broke box office records by earning over $1.4 billion.

In addition, Top Gun: Maverick received praise for its stunning cinematography and use of spectacle.  Formula One will do the same, replacing planes with fast automobiles.  However, the question of whether Formula One will recover its costs still stands as its june 27 release date draws near.

F1 The Movie's Budget Is Lower Than $300 Million

The producer & director Dispute The Reported Figure

The conflicting reports on the true cost of production present one challenge when assessing F1's potential for the big screen.  According to early estimates, the movie had a $300 million budget, which is astronomically high and even higher than movies like Top Gun: Maverick.

These numbers have been contested by the film's crew, though.  The estimate, according to producer Jerry Bruckheimer, was "tens of millions out of whack in the wrong direction."  He gave the example of regional refunds as justification for cost savings.

According to Kosinski, budget overreporting is a persistent issue in the movies he has worked on.  He said he's "not sure where that number came from" in the case of Formula One.  But neither creative provided a specific, modified budget.

F1 The movie was produced at a remarkably high cost, even if the budget was less than $300 million.  To turn a profit, they will therefore need to generate a sizable amount of revenue at the box office.
