Considering the workload of the indian cricket team’s star fast bowler jasprit bumrah, cricket in india-Latest Updates, Photos, Videos are a click away, CLICK NOW'>the board of control for cricket in india (BCCI) is reportedly considering introducing a new policy. Accordingly, it is said that bumrah will be considered for selection for the team only if he is ready to play in all the matches of a Test series. Otherwise, he will not be given a chance in that Test series. The reason why the bcci is considering imposing this restriction on bumrah is the ongoing england Test series.
Bumrah had earlier said that he would only be able to play three matches in the ongoing Test series against england due to his health. Accordingly, he rested after the first match. He then returned to the team for the third and fourth matches. He was the best bowler for the indian team, taking 14 wickets in the three matches he played at a bowling average of 26. However, he was rested again for the final Test match of the series after suffering from muscle cramps and minor injuries during the fourth match. This has caused various confusions in the selection of the indian team. In the five matches of the england Test series, many changes have been made only in the fast bowling department. The reason for this is that bumrah will be able to play only three matches. To the criticism that bumrah is 'selecting' matches, India's assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate responded. He clarified that this is an unfair comment and that it is the team management's decision to make him play in which matches. He further said that the team management has taken this decision considering Bumrah's health.

Bumrah's injury and workload concerns are not new. He previously played in all five Test matches against australia in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, bowling a lot of overs. He was injured in the last match of that series. Due to this, the bcci is paying extra attention to managing his workload. Regarding this, a bcci official said, "The workload of each player can be determined by the fitness coaches. But Bumrah's selection should be based on his overall fitness, which will be assessed by the medical committee." india is not scheduled to play a five-match Test series for the next two years. At the same time, managing Bumrah's fitness is a major challenge for the bcci as he is an indispensable fast bowler in all three formats of cricket. So, even if bumrah wants to, it is doubtful that he will play a longer Test series at half-fitness.
