For nearly a decade, Marvel fans have been waiting for one promise to be fulfilled. Ever since Mac Gargan appeared in Spider-Man: Homecoming, audiences expected his inevitable transformation into the iconic Scorpion. Now that Spider-Man: Brand New Day has finally delivered that long-awaited payoff, an even bigger question is dominating fan discussions: Is Marvel secretly setting up Scorpion to become the MCU's first true Venom? If the latest clues are anything to go by, Peter Parker's greatest nightmare may only be getting started.

Michael Mando's return as Mac Gargan has reignited speculation because comic book readers know exactly where this story can lead. While Eddie Brock remains Venom's most recognizable host, Gargan eventually bonded with the alien symbiote in Marvel Comics, becoming an even more violent and unpredictable version of Venom. That history has fans wondering whether Marvel Studios is quietly borrowing from the comics to create a fresh direction for the MCU instead of repeating familiar ground. 

The theory isn't based on wishful thinking alone. The MCU already planted the seeds for a symbiote storyline when a fragment of Venom was left behind after Spider-Man: No Way Home. Since then, Marvel has carefully avoided revealing who will ultimately bond with the alien organism. With Gargan now back in action and finally embracing his Scorpion identity, many believe he's the perfect candidate to evolve into something far more terrifying.

Adding fuel to the fire is Michael Mando himself. Whenever he's asked about Venom, the actor refuses to confirm or deny the possibility, while openly acknowledging Gargan's comic-book connection to the symbiote and teasing that the character still has enormous untapped potential. His careful responses have only intensified speculation that Marvel is playing the long game. 

From a storytelling perspective, the move makes perfect sense. Peter Parker has entered a darker chapter of his life following the events of No Way Home, and a Scorpion-Venom hybrid would provide a deeply personal, physically overwhelming enemy unlike anything he's faced before. It would also distinguish the MCU from Sony's Eddie Brock-led Venom franchise while honoring comic-book history.

Whether Marvel ultimately follows that path remains a closely guarded secret. Still, one thing is becoming increasingly clear: Spider-Man: Brand New Day may not simply be introducing Scorpion—it could be laying the foundation for the MCU's next truly iconic supervillain. If those breadcrumbs lead where fans believe they do, Spider-Man's toughest battle is still waiting in the shadows.
