Weevils in rice can be frustrating, but with the right methods, you can save your grains and keep your pantry pest-free.

1. Freeze the Rice

· Place the affected rice in a zip-lock bag and freeze for 3–4 days

· Freezing kills adult weevils, larvae, and eggs without chemicals

· Once thawed, the rice is safe to use

2. Sun-Dry the Rice

· Spread the rice on a clean tray and leave it in direct sunlight for a few hours

· The heat drives away weevils and their eggs

· Make sure rice is completely dry before storing to prevent mold

3. Use Bay Leaves or neem Leaves

· Place a few bay or neem leaves in the rice container

· The strong aroma repels weevils naturally

· Works best as a preventive measure in stored rice

4. Store in Airtight Containers

· Transfer rice to airtight jars or containers after purchase

· Keeps moisture and pests out, prolonging shelf life

· Avoid storing in plastic bags for long periods

5. Check and Clean Your Pantry Regularly

· Inspect rice and other grains every few weeks

· Remove infested portions immediately to prevent spread

· Clean shelves with soap water or vinegar solution for added protection

Bottom Line

Weevils are common in rice, especially during rainy or winter seasons, but with freezing, sun-drying, natural repellents, and proper storage, you can keep your rice safe and pest-free.
