How many couples registered their live-in relationship?
After the implementation of Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in uttarakhand by Valentine's Day, the number of marriage registrations has crossed 1000. Under this new law, it has been made mandatory to register marriage, so that people are now getting their marriage legally recognized. Along with this, three couples living in live-in relationship have also registered themselves.
UCC was implemented in uttarakhand on 27 january 2024. The very next day of the implementation of this law, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami got his marriage registered. After him, five other people also got their marriage registered on the portal on the same day and they were also given certificates. According to the data so far, an average of 67 people are registering their marriage every day.
3 couples have done live-in registration
An online portal has been started to make the process of registration under UCC easy and transparent. Not only new marriages can be registered on this portal, but information about marriages that have already taken place can also be recorded.
Under UCC, registration has been made mandatory for couples living in live-in relationships. So far, three couples have registered themselves in this category. The special thing is that couples living in uttarakhand from outside states will also have to register for live-in, irrespective of the state they are residents of.
Under UCC, the facility of will registration i.e. declaring one's heir has also been provided. So far, 13 people have availed this facility and declared their heirs. This will help in preventing disputes related to family property and inheritance. However, till now no one has registered any information regarding divorce on the portal nor has a new divorce been registered. Probably people are waiting for awareness about this process to increase.
