The producer of the ‘Kondaveeti Raja’ movie KVV Satyanarayana, was already working with Venkatesh on 'Sundarakanda'. The producer bought the rights for the Tamil movie 'Annamalai' to remake it. producer Satyanarayana took a flight to Hyderabad planned to star the movie with Chiranjeevi. He was lucky too as Chiranjeevi was on the flight and he had narrated the story. Chiranjeevi liked the story very much and agreed to make the movie.
After reaching Hyderabad, the producer went to the shooting location of Sundarakanda. Movie. Venkatesh himself approached the producer Satyanarayana hearing that the remake is being made for Annamalai. With this Satyanarayana was confused and fell into a dilemma. No hero would agree for doing two movies at the same time back then. Satyanarayana felt luck and started that movie with Venkatesh. As it is a Tamil remake there were few changes made to fit Venkatesh to fit in the character. Raviraja Pinchetti as the director, suman as the hero's friend, and paruchuri brothers as the lyricist.
'Kondapalli Raja' was a huge success for producer Satyanarayana. While Suman's performance as a friend in the film was good, for Venkatesh, the film brought more recognition than ever before.
