With Thor: love and Thunder's release only a few months away, merchandise for the film has shown a new look at Christian Bale's wicked Gorr the god Butcher. The character was created by writer Jason Aaron and illustrator Esad T. Ribi and first appeared in Thor: god of Thunder #1 in january 2013. Gorr is an extraterrestrial who, after learning that gods exist in the Marvel universe and that they failed to save his family, embarks on a quest throughout the universe to kill them all, eventually becoming one of Thor's most dangerous adversaries.

Jason Aaron's Thor run influenced Taikia Waititi's work on both Thor: Ragnarok and the forthcoming Thor: love and Thunder, as seen by Jane Foster's appearance as the Mighty Thor, a development that occurred during Aaron's tenure on the comic. Bale, who is most known for his role as Batman in the Dark Knight trilogy, was cast as the film's antagonist in january 2020 and unveiled as Gorr the god Butcher during a Disney Investor Call in december 2020. While fans wait for the first trailer for Thor: love and Thunder, which is only three months away, it appears that the first glimpse at Bale's character has already been shown through the film's paraphernalia.

According to toy leaks obtained by The Direct, the new collection of Marvel Legends figures based on Thor: love and Thunder is expected to hit toy shops. One of the boxes features a new look at Bale as the villain Gorr, who differs from his comic book counterpart in appearance. Instead of a flat face, they appear to have painted Bale white and dressed him in white robes, rather than trapping the figure in a black material fashioned from his sword.
