Ada Sharma's 'The kerala Story' has been awarded two National Awards. The jury chairman has now explained why this film was awarded two awards.

The 71st National Film Awards were announced on august 1, in which 'The kerala Story' was honored with two awards. Sudipto Sen won the Best Direction Award for 'The kerala Story', and Prasuntu Mahapatra won the Best Cinematography Award. 'The kerala Story' became a controversial release due to its subject.


 Many people condemned the film, calling it propaganda and criticizing it for misrepresenting facts and giving a communal color to Kerala. While the two National Awards received by "The kerala Story" surprised some people, jury chairman ashutosh gowariker explained why the film won the award.


Why did ' The kerala Story' get two National Awards

The jury chairman, ashutosh gowariker, told NDTV during an interview,


"One award is for cinematography. The cinematography of "The kerala Story" was very stark and realistic."


He further added, "It never tried to dominate the narrative; the images were created within the realm of reality. So, we appreciated it."


Speaking about the award given to Sudipto Sen, Gowariker said, "This is a difficult subject and for expressing it with such clarity, we as a jury felt the need to recognise it."


Gowariker said there was "deliberation" among the jury about "The kerala Story," but the film was awarded unanimously.

'The kerala Story', to be released in 2023, depicts the alleged radicalization and trafficking of women from kerala by ISIS, which many have dismissed as misleading.
