Call centers have been set up at 10 places in chennai to collect fines from traffic violators. In this case, the chennai police called 9,526 people who had not paid the fine in person to pay the fine. Through this special action, 586 cases were settled on the 20th and Rs.60,36,000 was collected as a fine. According to the traffic police, 12,551 cases have been resolved through the call centers in the last 4 months and a fine amount of Rs.12,99,08,600 has been collected.

One commuter remarked, "I was asked to pay a fine of Rs 1,000 for speeding, but there were no sign boards to indicate the speed limit on that road in Anna Nagar." In response to these accusations, Kapil Kumar C. Saratkar, Chennai's Additional Commissioner of police (Traffic), stated, "It is not practical for us to put up boards on every route in the city. The posted speed limits for all vehicles throughout the day and at night are 40 kph and 50 kph, respectively.

Madhan, a commuter who had similar issues about the penalties, said that he was unaware of the city's posted speed restrictions. "The speed limit should be around 40 to 50 kmph, I guess, but I'm not sure," said Ramachandran, a resident of chennai who was recently penalised for exceeding the posted speed limit on the east Coast Road.

Convener of the NGO Arappor Iyakkam jayaram Venkatesan blasted the traffic police for assuming that people were aware of the current speed restrictions. He said that "the authorities have not carried out significant awareness campaigns or communicated these speed limits through advertisements."
