Regarding the Central government's instruction to telangana power distribution companies (discoms) to pay power bill arrears of Rs 7,000 crore to andhra pradesh, a bench of the telangana High court reserved its orders. The applications submitted by telangana discoms contesting the notice issued by the Union Power Ministry in august 2022, which requested the payment of these unpaid dues, were heard by the bench, which was made up of Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice NV shravan Kumar. telangana Utilities' standing attorney claimed that the Union government's handling of this situation was utterly unfair.

"Many power plants were built across the State of andhra pradesh when the state was unified. Because we have investments in such assets as well, we should receive compensation for the facilities that were retained by Andhra Pradesh. If we were to calculate everything, andhra pradesh would owe us Rs 12,000 crore in back payments, the attorney claimed.

Power generation remained a joint duty at the time of the State's division and was managed by andhra pradesh till 2017. The telangana discoms were required to pay Rs 3,500 crore towards electricity bills and an extra Rs 3,500 crore as a late payment fee, according to calculations made by the Union electricity Ministry of the amounts owing by telangana to andhra pradesh for producing and providing power over these three years.

The bench reserved its decision on tuesday after taking into account the arguments made by senior solicitors CS Vaidyanathan and J Ramachandra Rao, who represented the telangana discoms, as well as senior solicitors CV mohan reddy and P Govind Reddy, who represented Andhra Pradesh.
