On the occasion of pongal festival, pongal gift package scheme and cash giving scheme is in operation to benefit all rice family card holders in tamil Nadu. After the DMK government took charge, the tamil Nadu government gave a gift package containing 21 items on the occasion of pongal festival in 2022. But the cash was not given. There were also criticisms that the materials were of substandard quality in many places. Thus in the current year (year 2023) pongal was given Rs.1000 cash along with rice, sugar and whole sugarcane. It was well received by the people.
In this way, there has been an expectation of how much prize money will be given to the public on the occasion of this year's pongal festival. While the pongal gift purchase process is yet to begin, questions have been raised whether cash will be given in lieu of the pongal gift package along with Rs 1000 cash. Likewise, the Women's Entitlement Scheme is also in the works. tamil Nadu government's women's entitlement amount is released every month by 14th or 15th. As the pongal festival falls on 15th, it is also said that women's entitlement amount can be paid into bank accounts before 14th to celebrate it. In that case, the question arises whether Rs.3000 will be available. However, women's rights amount is not provided to all families. Therefore, it is expected that families who do not receive women's rights amount will get Rs.2000 in cash and families who receive the amount will get Rs.3000 in cash.
On the other hand, tamil Nadu is facing two calamities namely Mijam storm and heavy rain in southern districts. Due to this, the tamil Nadu government does not have sufficient funds to repair the damages, and the question has also arisen whether the pongal gift package and cash will be given due to lack of funds.
In this situation, reports have surfaced that the tamil Nadu government is planning to give Rs.1000 as pongal gift. Accordingly, it has been reported that 2.19 crore rice family card holders in tamil Nadu will be given a pongal gift of Rs.1000 cash and a gift package. It seems that the notification regarding this will be officially released in a couple of days and the token distribution for the prize money will be started in the next few days.
