Aiming to apply rail connectivity for selling tourism and producing employment in north-Japanese states, the Railway Ministry has accepted the very last area survey for a proposed line from Melli to Dentam in sikkim, stated an official on Sunday.


The proposed railway line, through Jorethang and Legship, promises to extend rail connectivity to western and southern areas of sikkim and raise tourism and economic activities, he said.


The proposed line, with a predicted period of seventy-five km, according to the preliminary feasibility evaluation, will enhance connectivity as part of a strategic continuation of the continuing Sivok-Rangpo railway venture.


The Sivok-Rangpo railway undertaking is one of the crucial connectivity tasks for the northeastern place and is predicted to be completed by way of 2027.

The overall period of the Sivok-Rangpo rail line challenge is 44.96 km (41.55 km in West bengal and 3.41 km in Sikkim). Out of the entire period of 44.96 km, 38.623 km (86 percent) is in the shape of tunnels, 2.24 km (5 percent) in bridges, and 4.79 km (9 percent) in open slicing/filling of station yards.


A professional said the New Austrian Tunnelling Approach (NATM) has been followed for the development of tunnelling works. The proposed line includes 14 tunnels, with the longest tunnel being 5.30 km long and the shortest tunnel being 538 meters long.


There are 13 predominant bridges and 10 minor bridges within the task. The undertaking includes the construction of five stations—Sivok, Riyang, Melli, Rangpo, and one underground halt station, viz., Teesta Bazar.


The estimated cost of the undertaking is Rs 12,474 crore, in line with the Northeast Frontier Railway's internet site.


This is one of the prestigious ongoing national initiatives in India, and on finishing this project, for the first time, the kingdom of sikkim can be related through railways. Once finished, this venture will ensure an uninterrupted supply of important commodities in Sikkim.


It will also be feasible to introduce long-distance train offerings from sikkim to diverse parts of the USA. Tourism and financial activities of the state will even get an excellent raise.
