This increase has been recorded since trump returned to the white house in january 2025.
America's tough stand on India
Meanwhile, the US has imposed an additional 25% tariff on india, which will take the total duty to 50%. This punitive duty will come into effect from august 27. The US says that India's purchase of oil and weapons from russia is a matter of concern. However, india has made it clear that its imports are based solely on market factors and energy security.

India's Foreign Ministry condemned the move and termed it unfair. The ministry said that the US has targeted only India's oil imports in recent times, while countries like china and the european union (EU) are importing Russian oil on a large scale without any punishment.

China's share in Russia's exports is 32% and EU's is 62%. EU's LNG imports reached 17.8 million tonnes in 2024. Now guess who will be burdened by high tariffs? This is not trade, but selective intimidation."
