Positive Atmosphere in Relations

PM narendra modi met Chinese President Xi jinping on the sidelines of the shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit 2025.

Both leaders welcomed the “positive atmosphere” in bilateral relations since their last meeting in Kazan (October 2024).

They reiterated that india and china are development partners, not rivals.

Leaders agreed to facilitate visas, expand direct flights, and restore Kailash Mansarovar Yatra.

Focus on reducing India’s trade deficit with china and encouraging greater Chinese investment in India.

Commitment to boost people-to-people contacts as a pillar of relations.


Strategic Autonomy & Global Cooperation

Modi highlighted that india and china follow strategic autonomy, and relations should not be viewed through the prism of any third country.

Agreement to enhance cooperation on counterterrorism, fair trade, and global governance issues.


Support for Multilateral Platforms

Modi assured support to China’s SCO chairmanship.

He extended an invitation to Xi to attend the 2026 BRICS Summit in india, which Xi accepted.

Xi also pledged support for India’s leadership role in BRICS.


Engagement with Chinese Leadership

Modi held talks with Kai Chi, Politburo Standing Committee member of the CPC.

Kai stressed China’s keenness to strengthen ties with india further.
