In a noteworthy ruling, the delhi High court has declared that a husband requesting his wife to handle household chores does not constitute cruelty. The court emphasized the importance of sharing responsibilities in a marriage, dismissing the notion that such requests could be deemed cruel.

The verdict stemmed from a case where a man filed a petition in the delhi family court, claiming that his wife's demands for him to participate in household work amounted to cruelty. The petitioner also alleged harassment to leave his elderly parents, leading to his request for a divorce.

Upon the family court's refusal to grant the divorce, the man approached the delhi High court to challenge the decision. In its judgment, the delhi High court ruled that a husband's request for his wife to contribute to household tasks is a legitimate aspect of marriage and does not constitute cruelty. The court underscored the importance of shared responsibilities between spouses in a marital relationship.

Additionally, the court criticized the wife's insistence on the husband abandoning his elderly parents, emphasizing the son's responsibility to care for family members in need.
