Vivek kumar gupta, a senior officer of the indian railway service of engineers (irse) of the 1988 batch, has taken over the rate as general supervisor of western railway on friday, 11th july, 2025. Previous to his posting as general manager, western railway he was working because the handling director of country wide excessive speed rail employer restrained (nhsrcl), the agency entrusted with the execution of india's first bullet train assignment.
Gupta has served as main govt director/gati-shakti on the railway board, ministry of railways, where he become answerable for the integrated functioning of seven (07) departments - civil (works, project monitoring & station development), electric (re), sign & telecommunication, traffic, finance, planning, and financial directorates - functioning as a cohesive unit for the planning and execution of all predominant railway projects together with station development underneath the pm gati-shakti initiative.
Gupta has held several prestigious positions on western and valuable railways, which include leader administrative officer (production), leader song engineer, leader bridge engineer and divisional railway supervisor (drm). In these roles, he oversaw vital infrastructure works along with new line construction, gauge conversion, doubling and multi-tracking tasks, track creation works, site visitors facilities and bridge maintenance.
As leader engineer at mumbai railway vikas company (mrvc), gupta played a key position in coordination and implementation of mutp i, ii & iii tasks, with a cumulative project cost of round ₹20,000 cr. He also led the preparatory paintings for the ₹34,000 cr mutp 3a project. His obligations involved enormous coordination with numerous corporations along with the sector financial institution, aiib, mmrda, cidco and government of maharashtra on making plans and execution topics.
All through his tenure as drm of bhusaval department of relevant railway (april 2019 to august 2021), he ensured green operations with recognition on safety, reliability, infrastructure development, group of workers welfare, purchaser pride and expenditure manage & sales technology.
Gupta brings with him extensive experience in railway operations, infrastructure management and mission execution. He is nicely reputable among officers and body of workers alike and there is powerful self belief that below his visionary management, western railway will scale extra heights.
