Udanpirappe, Jyotika's 50th film, is now available on amazon Prime Video as a direct OTT launch. Era Saravanan of Kathukutty fame is directing the film, which also stars sasikumar and Samuthirakani. Vairavan (Sasikumar) is the local do-gooder who takes the laws into his own fists, whilst his brother-in-law Sargunam (Samuthirakani) is an ahimsa devotee who believes that the judiciary and cops are more than enough to bring benefits to the people.

Vairavan, his younger sister Mathangi (Jyotika), and Sargunam used to live peacefully together, until a shocking tragedy caused the family to be separated. mathangi and her spouse are no longer on speaking terms with Vairavan. When the family gets reunited, another problem shoots up...

Udanpirappe had plenty of room to go into the theme of relationships in depth, but director Era Saravanan simply skimmed the surface. He also uses melodramatic techniques to communicate emotion, and the treatment could have been more fresh and effective. Jyotika dazzles with her gorgeous eyes and emotionally riveting portrayal as Mathangi, a fearless and kind Tanjore woman. samuthirakani has put up yet another excellent display.

Soori lends a hand by cracking a few jokes here and there. With his songs and backing score, Imman creates a kadai Kutty Singam mood. Ruben, the film's editor, kept the running duration under 135 minutes, which is a good length for a family drama. The main reason why Udanpirappe works is due of the lead performers' stellar performances.
