The helicopter carrying Defence services Chief Staff General Bipin Rawat, his wife, and members of his team wrecked between coimbatore and Sulur in tamil Nadu. Unidentified sources told media outlet ANI that a total of 14 individuals were onboarded the aircraft – an IAF Mi-17V5 helicopter – comprising CDS General Bipin Rawat, his spouse, Defense Assistant, security forces, and IAF personnel. 



The accident happened at the Wellington army Centre in Coonoor, where the soldiers were exercising. From nearby bases, search and rescue activities have been launched. The site's video shows fire, flames, and debris. According to the News, four persons were involved in the crash. However, it is unclear what CDS Rawat's or relatives of his staff's or family's current status is. 


ANI further stated, citing sources, that when local army forces arrived at the scene, they were told that people had brought two bodies to a local hospital with 80 percent burns. "On the downhill side of the accident, a few bodies may be seen. "Efforts are underway to recover the dead and verify IDs," sources told the Associated Press. The indian Air Force has confirmed that CDS Rawat was on board and that an investigation into the reason of the mishap has been ordered. However, there has yet to be any official word on injuries or a death toll as a result of the incident.
