
Since Shahjahan had been evading authorities for more than 50 days prior to his arrest on february 29, the court emphasised that the state police had "underplayed the entire situation".
Subsequently, the West bengal government petitioned the supreme court to overturn the High Court's decision to transfer the state police investigation to the CBI.
On january 5, a crowd attacked the Enforcement Directorate team in Sandeshkhali, resulting in several injuries.
After fleeing for 55 days, Sheikh Shahjahan was apprehended by the state police on february 29.
Many women in Sandeshkhali have also accused Shahjahan and his goons of rape and land grabbing.
