Mahesh Navami 2025: Significance of the day

For the Maheshwari community, this is a very significant day. You ask, why? legend has it that on this day, 72 Kshatriyas were released from the curse that had turned them into stone by the goddess Parvati and Lord Mahesha, also known as Lord shiva, because the sages were upset with them. Kshatriyas were blessed by the lord and the goddess after they were released from the curse, with the words, "From today, your lineage will bear our imprint and will be called Maheshwari." For this reason, it is considered auspicious to worship the Lord and the Goddess on this day.

By offering prayers, devotees receive pardon for previous transgressions, paving the door for their spiritual development.  By commemorating this day, one can also ask the Lord and the Goddess for their blessing to be released from the curses their ancestors have placed upon them.
