Sydney Sweeney, Ana de Armas, and Vanessa Kirby star in Ron Howard's psychological survival thriller Eden, which won an Oscar. Eden, which tells the story of a group of people who move to an uninhabited Galápagos island in the early 20th century in the hopes of leading a tranquil, utopian life, split critics when it debuted at the Toronto international Film festival in 2024.  Though the first couple who embark on this adventure discover happiness, more newcomers with their own goals upend their new life, and the situation swiftly devolves into anarchy.

Given the conflicting responses of its critics, it is arguable if Eden succeeds in its goal of becoming a discourse on human nature.  But up until now, Eden has been a largely elite experience, so the general public might be the audience it seeks.  Although Eden debuted in German cinemas in april 2025, it won't be accessible to the majority of Americans and several other countries until August.  With a variety of A-list celebrities giving intriguingly odd performances, something as bizarre as Eden seems to be sure to be amusing, if not top-notch film.

Since too many people are potentially counter to the entire idea, the new trailer foreshadows the friction that develops when Jude Law's character, Dr. Friedrich Ritter, inadvertently encourages others to join him and his wife on the island.  Even though Baroness Eloise Bosquet de Wagner Wehrhorn is distant from all the luxury to which she is obviously accustomed, we are able to see glimpses of her opulence.  When Eloise's plans, in particular, destroy the life Friedrich and Dora (Vanessa Kirby) have created for themselves, if that was ever a true ideal, violence breaks out.
