One of the year's most anticipated movies was Thug Life, which brought together two icons after many years apart: kamal haasan and Mani Ratnam.  But the movie hasn't been as successful as many had hoped.  Despite all the hoopla, Thug Life didn't do well in theaters and didn't go past the first few weeks.

The movie didn't even reach the 100-crore mark globally, despite being predicted to surpass significant box office benchmarks. Particularly disappointing was its success in the hindi market, where it failed to draw viewers throughout North india and received a very poor theater reception.  The hindi version reportedly failed to make even ₹2 crore nett, which is a glaring indication that the movie had trouble reaching viewers outside of its primary regions.

The fact that the movie will now debut on Netflix only four weeks after its initial release has further complicated matters for the creators. This goes against industry norms, particularly in North india, where there is typically an eight-week gap between theatrical and over-the-top releases.  Multiplex chains have reportedly fined the makers ₹25 lakh for this violation.  To resolve the matter, the producers will also relinquish their remaining hindi theatrical stake.

It appears that the decision to release the movie on OTT early was taken in order to make up for the film's poor box office performance. According to reports, the film's poor performance led to a subsequent renegotiation of the original wallet PLATFORM' target='_blank' title='digital-Latest Updates, Photos, Videos are a click away, CLICK NOW'>digital rights contract, which had been done at a higher valuation.

On paper, Thug Life, which starred silambarasan as his adoptive son and kamal haasan as a gangster, had everything: huge performers, a renowned director, and great hopes.  Ultimately, Thug Life serves as a reminder that if the content isn't compelling, even the most well-known brands can't ensure success.  Whether they live in little towns or big cities, today's audience is obviously searching for captivating stories above all else.
