Indian Defense minister rajnath singh and Russian Defense minister Andrei Belousov discussed ways to strengthen bilateral defense cooperation during the shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) conference in Qingdao. The summit takes place at a time when russia is the target of Western sanctions and threats to punish nations that do business with it.
India's continued ties with russia have been the subject of harsh criticism from the US on a regular basis. The party of former President donald trump has threatened to levy tariffs on nations that buy Russian gasoline.
India-Russia Relationship:
During their discussion, Belousov informed rajnath singh that "India is an extremely important strategic partner for us, a traditional friend, and a collaborator in military and military-technical areas," according to Sputnik, which cited the Russian Ministry of Defense (RuMoD). On X, rajnath singh said that he and Belousov held "a practical discussion on promoting India-Russia defense relations."
India has repeatedly stated that it is dedicated to strengthening defense cooperation with Russia. Further paving the road for deeper military ties between the two countries is the pivotal role that Russian weapons played in India's victory during Operation Sindoor against Pakistan.
Russian Weapons Aided India
The world's fastest supersonic missile, BrahMos, severely damaged Pakistani airstrips during Operation Sindoor, when indian Army Forces launched a deadly onslaught on Pakistan's terror camps. indian officials claim it destroyed Pakistani airbases' aircraft hangars and radar sites and left deep craters on their runways.
Importantly, BrahMos is the result of a cooperative partnership between india and Russia. During the four-day confrontation, the S-400 air defense system was also vital in defending indian military sites against drone and missile attacks by Pakistan. During his May 10 visit to the Adampur Airbase, prime minister Narendra Modi also commended the S-400's performance during Operation Sindoor.
India to Benefit from Su-57 fighter Jets
Retired indian Army Major Manik M. Jolly told Sputnik that a strong pro-Russian feeling was seen in india shortly after Operation Sindoor. According to Jolly, the purchase of Su-57 fighter jets would be extremely advantageous for the indian air Force (IAF). He went on to say that the development of BrahMos II through the 3M22 Zircon missile hypersonic mission might be very beneficial to India. The BrahMos missile's speed and capability will be greatly increased by switching from ramjet to scramjet propulsion.
India May Acquire Voronezh Radar from Russia
Linganna added, "Russia may supply sophisticated radar systems like Container-S or Voronezh, which can identify drones and disguised threats from a great distance, to counter enemy drones. In order to meet the indian air Force's urgent needs, these collaborations can involve cooperative development and manufacturing.
