
Prime minister Narendra Modi arrived in brazil on a 4-day visit. During this, he will participate in the 17th BRICS summit and will also make a state visit. Prime minister Modi was given a grand welcome at Galeão international Airport on saturday (July 5, 2025). The Prime Minister's visit has taken place at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
This is the fourth phase of PM Modi's visit to 5 countries. Posting on the social media platform X, prime minister Modi said, "I have reached Rio de Janeiro, brazil, where I will participate in the BRICS summit and later go to the capital Brasilia on a state visit at the invitation of President Lula. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir jaiswal said in a post, "Committed to BRICS partnership! prime minister Narendra Modi arrived in Rio de Janeiro, brazil for the 17th BRICS Summit." PM Modi arrived here from Argentina, where he held extensive talks with President Javier Miley and agreed to enhance bilateral trade, cooperation in defense, critical minerals, pharmaceutical, energy and mining sectors.
During his visit, prime minister Modi will attend the BRICS summit in Rio de Janeiro on July 6 and 7, followed by a state visit. For which he will go to Brasilia. This will be the first bilateral visit of an indian prime minister to the country in nearly six decades.
Will hold bilateral talks with President Silva
During his state visit to brazil, prime minister Modi will visit Brasilia, where he will hold bilateral talks with President Lula da Silva on broadening the strategic partnership between the two countries in areas of mutual interest, including trade, defense, energy, space, technology, agriculture, health and people-to-people contacts.
In a statement before leaving for the five-nation visit, prime minister Modi had said that as a founding member of BRICS, india is committed to making this group an important platform for cooperation among emerging economies.
