On Wednesday, US President donald trump took a tough step on global trade and announced to impose heavy tariffs on many countries at once. He first announced to impose import duty on Algeria, Iraq, Libya, sri lanka (30%), Brunei, moldova (25%) and Philippines (20%). Immediately after this, he imposed a direct tariff of 50 percent on brazil and called it the toughest action till date. All these duties will be implemented from august 1. When trump imposed tariff, brazil gave warning?

Just a few hours after this announcement, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva gave a sharp reaction and warned America of economic reciprocal action. Silva bluntly said that if America unilaterally increased the tariff on brazilthen Brazil will also take retaliatory action at the same level. Trump said that he took this decision in the context of the treatment being meted out to former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro. Bolsonaro is currently facing trial on charges of plotting a coup.

The office of Brazilian President Lula da Silva has issued an official statement taking a tough stand in response to the US tariffs. The statement said, "If a country unilaterally increases tariffs, brazil will respond under the Economic Reciprocity Law." With this sharp message, the possibility of a possible trade war between the US and brazil has deepened. trump alleges that brazil is not doing fair trade with the US.

What did President Lula write on X?

After Trump's announcement, Brazilian President Lula da Silva gave a sharp reaction on the social media platform X. He bluntly said that brazil is an independent and sovereign countrywhich will not accept any kind of external interference. Lula wrote, "Brazil is a sovereign nation with its own independent institutions. We will not recognize any foreign interference."

President Lula also clarified that the legal process going on against former President Jair Bolsonaro is completely under the Brazilian judiciary and no external pressure will affect it. He said, "The ongoing trials against those involved in the coup conspiracy are under the jurisdiction of our judicial system. They cannot be influenced by any threat or external interference."

He also clarified his stand on freedom of expression. He said that freedom in brazil does not mean the freedom to spread hatred, violence or abusive language. The government will not tolerate any kind of online hate speech, racism, child abuse or other crimes. All companies working in the country, whether domestic or foreign, will have to fully comply with Brazilian laws.
