Crackdown On terrorists In J&K
The intensified security crackdown follows the brutal terrorist attack on 22 April in Baisaran meadow, Pahalgam, where 26 civilians were killed by Pakistan-backed Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operatives. The incident provoked nationwide outrage and prompted prime minister Narendra Modi to grant the armed forces a free hand to respond.
In retaliation, indian forces carried out targeted strikes on terror infrastructure across the Line of Control, reportedly destroying nine terror bases inside Pakistan. Pakistan’s counter-response included strikes on civilian and military facilities, resulting in extensive damage to homes and religious places, including a temple, gurdwara, and church, in Jammu's Poonch district.
Subsequent escalation led to significant losses on both sides, with 18 Pakistani military installations reportedly damaged.
Operations in Harwan continue as part of the broader effort to dismantle terror networks and prevent further attacks.
