Students belonging to the scheduled caste and Scheduled Tribe categories are required to keep their utensils separate in an educational institution in Manipuri. After the midday meal, the school cooks ostensibly made the children scrub their utensils and denied touching them. This was immediately taken to the notice of the district Magistrate Mahendra Bahadur Singh. The discriminatory practices at the government school in Mainpuri made a huge stir and as a result, the two chefs were fired shortly after they were exposed.

Two chefs at a school in Daudapur village, Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh, were fired when it was discovered that they refused to wash the pupils' utensils and even separated those belonging to disadvantaged students. The UP school requires students to wash their utensils and separates the dishes of SC/ST students.

For a long time, the school staff had required the students to wash their utensils. When Manju Devi, the village chief, learned about it, she went to the school and warned the principal, Garima Rajput, that this should not happen.

During an investigation, the two mid-day meal chefs and the kitchen staff openly stated that they would not wash any of the students' utensils. They also have submitted a letter stating that they would not wash the utensils in writing. Both cooks have been fired from employment with immediate effect, according to Chief Development Officer Vinod Kumar, who went to examine the situation.
