Whilst what you eat is a significant factor, it is equally vital when you eat. Dinner can be the most crucial meal for those of you who want to reduce weight, sleep well or enhance your general health. The body reacts to different types of foods differently, which can affect how you digest, maintain your body weight and sleep. Whether eating food right before bed is right or wrong is not a black or white solution. All of this is related to the type and portion of food consumed.

Trying to fit in clothes?

In a study published in the Endocrine Journal of Endocrinology & Metabolism, the body's metabolism is slowed down during the night with a late meal usually related to weight gain and high levels of blood sugar. Food and quantity decisions here are essential. But a gap must be maintained between dinner and bed, for efficient weight management, given that it takes time for the body to digest and effectively metabolise meals.

Acid reflux?

Acid reflux is another aspect of late consumption. Acid reflux, digestion, dental erosion and heartburn may cause a large meal right before sleeping. It takes time for the body to digest food. Acid reflux is a direct result of eating a meal before bedtime. Recent research says, "if you have acid reflux, it is a good idea to keep anything from eating at least 3 hours before sleeping."

Sleep-Deprived?

While heavy foods might create disturbances of sleep shortly before sleep, even when it sleeps the body still requires energy to work. So, even if you need to eat enough calories from nutrient food before you go to bed, overuse and unsafe food selections might in fact affect the quality and duration of your sleep. It is also not advisable to have a great gap between last meal and night, because the body needs energy from the food it digests.

Overall health?

A number of health hazards are related with eating late dinners, such as obesity, heart disease and diabetes. A big meal right before sleep might block cholesterol arteries and put fat into the liver. This can lead to issues of your health that affect your overall health.

There is no clear answer, thus it is typically hazardous to eat a substantial and unhealthy dinner just before you go to bed. So, ladies, make a better choice of food, time and improved health and wellbeing for your meals!
