One spoon of
sugar in morning tea, sweets in the afternoon, biscuits in
office and sherbet or cold drink in the evening, we ourselves do not know how much
sugar is going into the body. Eating sweets makes the mind happy, but this sweetness can gradually become poison for our body.
Dr.
rishabh Sharma tells that consuming more
sugar than the daily requirement not only invites obesity,
diabetes and
heart diseases, but can also cause wrinkles on the skin and premature ageing. Therefore, it is very important to know how much
sugar is right for
health in a day and what dangers can be promoted by consuming more than that.
How much
sugar is right to eat in a day?
A person should not take more than 25 grams of
sugar daily, i.e. about 6 teaspoons. For children, this limit should be about 4 teaspoons. This limit applies to added
sugar, that is, the
sugar you take in tea, sweets, cold drinks, cookies, etc.
Disadvantages of eating too much sugar
Increase in obesity –
sugar contains calories, not nutrition. Excessive intake can increase weight rapidly.
Risk of
diabetes – Continuous high
sugar level puts pressure on the pancreas, which increases the risk of
insulin resistance and type-2 diabetes.
Heart diseases – According to research, excess
sugar increases
blood pressure and triglycerides, which can cause
heart problems.
Skin aging – Excess
sugar damages collagen protein, which leads to early wrinkles on the face.
Tooth decay – Sweet substances attract
bacteria on the teeth, which can cause cavities.
How to control the amount of sugar?
Use natural alternatives like jaggery, honey instead of sugar
Stay away from cold drinks, sweets, cookies and bakery items
While buying packed food,
read the labels, be careful of hidden sugar
You can eat fresh
fruits or drink juices with less sugar
