Zoho Corporation's co-founder and chief scientist
sridhar Vembu has cautioned tech professionals about the use of artificial intelligence. He says that AI is helpful in learning and increasing the speed of work when used properly, but if you become completely dependent on it or use it carelessly, it can also reduce productivity.
It is not right to replace humans with AI
According to Vembu, "AI can improve the product experience, like Grok does in X. But I am not in favor of creating new content with it. In
customer support, it helps agents to work faster, but it is not right to replace humans with AI. And the most wrong thing is to send text written by AI to the
customer without informing them."
How does Vembu himself use AI?
Sharing his experience on X in
august 2025, he said that he uses AI chat tools two to three times daily and has the top-5 AI apps installed on his phone. He described himself as a “moderate to heavy user”. He revealed that AI has reduced his web searching by 80% as it provides a faster way to learn. He often lets different AI systems debate among themselves which helps in understanding a topic in a deeper way.
Do not trust blindly
According to Vembu, AI can make
customer service faster but it should not completely replace humans. He also said that using code written by AI directly is dangerous. It needs to go through strict compliance, privacy and security reviews. If this process is skipped, developers will be working in an unprofessional manner.
According to him, these checks are time-consuming and sometimes even eliminate the time-saving benefits provided by AI. In some cases, AI can even slow down the pace of development.
A learning tool, not a substitute for humans
Vembu clearly stated that Zoho encourages its programmers to use AI to learn and solve problems but not to replace human decision-making ability. He also added that the company is constantly experimenting with AI and as real experiences emerge, the strategy will also change.
