When I first saw Arun Matheswaran's film rocky, I thought the story was basic, but it signalled the arrival of a true cinematic voice. The wonderfully constructed and absolutely shameless violence, I said, was the film's USP. As I previously stated, violence gets repetitious beyond a certain point, and it begins to resemble action sequences or violence for the sake of action scenes and violence. I claimed the tale and characters were generic, and the premise was simple: You murdered a member of my family, and now I'm going to seek vengeance. A brother-sister angle and a small girl angle are both present. Scenes regarding time and wristwatches are included. The movie is also divided into chapters with amusing titles.

Saani Kaayitham is a heroine-centered version of rocky, with a caste subplot. The plot begins when a mill worker from an oppressed caste wishes to enter politics. His employers, of course, put him in his place. Then something happens to start a series of revenge events. The cast is the film's main attraction. Keerthy suresh takes on a challenging role without makeup. Her act still has some "mainstream" elements, but she's extremely effective overall. Selvaraghavan is also fantastic. He has the appearance of a youngster. He dresses in half-pants and appears more at ease around children. However, when hell breaks loose, he transforms into a monster. The transformation is incredible.

I had the same problem with Saani Kaayitham as I did with Rocky. Arun appears to be a better filmmaker than a writer, with one-dimensional characters. There aren't any tones. It's not enough to have arty black-and-white memories and one-off lines like "vasathiya vaazhndha ponnu." But the lack of a powerful opponent like bharathiraja in rocky is a bigger issue. Consider the movie Kill Bill. Each villain has his or her own universe, eccentricities, and hues. The heroine faces a difficult task in tracking them down and exacting her vengeance. The deaths are almost too easy to come by here, and we never sense the perils that Keerthy suresh and Selvaraghavan face.

The task feels like a to-do list, and the lack of variety in settings becomes monotonous after a while.
